A pathway to GMercyU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing and other programs

Gwynedd Mercy University’s Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing & Health Professions has been a leader in nursing and healthcare education for more than 60 years. With expert faculty, more than 200 regional healthcare affiliations, and state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with patient simulators and real-time video capture, you will learn to address the complex patient and family needs of the 21st century.

As a Health Studies student, you will work with a professional advisor who will ensure you are taking the courses needed to pursue the major of your choice.

Meet the Next Great Need

Health Studies can lead to our BSN degree or any of our other undergraduate health or helping professions programs. Now more than ever, there is a tremendous demand for compassionate care professionals of all kinds! Explore these exciting majors:

Medical Laboratory Science
Medical laboratory scientists identify sources of disease and determine the validity of data that allows physicians to make a diagnosis or determine the effectiveness of treatment. This is a job with no direct patient interaction, well suited for those who would prefer to work in labs.

Nursing

Nurses are critical members of any healthcare team. GMercyU nurses are known for being confident and capable compassionate care professionals.  To gain entry into the Nursing program, you will need to earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and all A's and B's in your math and science courses.

Occupational Science/Therapy
Occupational therapists work to improve a patient’s ability to complete everyday tasks and abilities. They can radically improve the quality of life of those with developmental delays and physical or psychological disabilities.

Public Health
Anything that impacts the health of communities — from the opioid crisis to obesity to climate change — is public health. By promoting wellness, your goal would be to promote ways to keep people healthy rather than treating them once they are ill.

Psychology
With a BA or BS Psychology degree, you can dive immediately into full-time work after graduation, pursuing one of many careers that put your empathy and expertise to use. Or, earn your master's degree and license to become a licensed therapist or counselor. (Career mentorship is a key component of this program; our faculty will help plan the best path for you.)

Radiation Therapy
Radiation Therapists collaborate with teams of specialists to expertly locate and neutralize cancer using equipment on the cutting edge of medical radiation technology.

Radiologic Technology
Radiologic technologists, also called x-ray technologists, help physicians diagnose patient diseases and conditions by performing x-rays, computed tomography (CT), MRI, mammography and other diagnostic medical imaging procedures.

Respiratory Care
Respiratory therapists evaluate, diagnose, and treat heart and lung issues, including chronic diseases and emergencies. Currently, there is a tremendous need for respiratory therapists.

Social Work
Make a difference as a social worker, supporting individuals and communities in urban, suburban, and rural areas. You’ll learn to address economic and social justice concerns, from homelessness to community violence, substance abuse, organizational diversity, and child welfare.
