Counseling Program Director Welcome
Thank you so much for your interest in the Graduate Counseling Program at Gwynedd Mercy University! I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our program and to the larger Gwynedd Mercy community. We know you have an important decision to make regarding whom to entrust with your graduate education and hope – whether through perusing the website, in your discussions with your enrollment advisor, or through the program interview – you emerge with a clear sense of our dedication to students, our passion for the counseling profession, and our commitment to providing you with a strong foundation for your new career.
We recognize that preparing for a new career is an important personal journey. To help you forge your unique career path, we assign a faculty mentor to every student in our program. Your faculty mentor’s role is to provide support and encouragement when you need it, offer professional guidance and information, and to help you connect with career-building opportunities. The faculty mentor is in addition to a dedicated fieldwork coordinator, who oversees your process with securing Practicum and Internship placements, and an Academic Advisor, who helps you plan out your course of study and register for the appropriate courses each semester.
While we have many resources already in place to support you, we also value being responsive to students’ changing needs. Whether through establishing a Student Ambassadors group to give students a voice in program planning or ongoing refinements to our courses and course offerings to ensure they reflect current literature and best practices, we pride ourselves on staying open to learning and growing alongside our students. You’ll also find that GMercyU instructors can talk about counseling from the vantage point of having practiced in the field and are able to use examples and feedback that doesn’t just come from a book. This is invaluable as you work on developing your counseling skills and clinical judgment.
That’s just a sample of what we have to offer, but hopefully, it gives you a nice snapshot of what you could expect from your GMercyU experience. Please take the time you need to look through our program materials and feel free to ask questions. We know this is a big choice and are invested in making sure you feel connected and as comfortable as possible along the way.
Warmest wishes and welcome to the counseling profession!
Dr. Brokamp
