Gwynedd Mercy University offers numerous scholarships and grants to help you get a great education at an affordable cost.
Known as “gift assistance,” these scholarships and grants do not need to be repaid, and generally are renewable for all four years of your education as a student enrolled in a traditional program.

Merit Scholarships for Incoming First-Time Students
These scholarships are offered to students enrolling at GMercyU as first-time, full-time students in Fall 2023. We are test optional this year! You do not need to submit ACT/SAT test scores to qualify for merit scholarships or to complete the undergraduate application process.
Presidential Scholarship
Full Tuition - The Presidential Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship awarded to a limited number of selected first-time students. To be eligible, you will need a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.75. Students invited to apply for this competitive academic scholarship will to need to submit a separate Presidential Scholarship application, letters of recommendation, activities form, and an essay or video response to a provided prompt. Select students will then be invited for an on-campus interview. This full-tuition scholarship is renewable for three years as long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. This full-tuition scholarship cannot be combined with any other GMercyU scholarships or grants, and your institutional funding may be reduced if your total gift aid from all sources exceeds standard tuition costs.
Honors Program Scholarship
Full Tuition in Final Semester of Senior Year - The Honors Program Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship that is applied to the final semester of a student's senior year. It is available to first-time, full-time Honors Program-eligible students who enroll in the Honors Program beginning in their first semester at GMercyU and meet all eligibility requirements. When added to any other scholarships and grants, this scholarship will bring tuition costs down to $0 in the final semester of a student's senior year.
Dual Enrollment Program Scholarship
Full Tuition in Final Semester of Senior Year - Students who participate in GMercyU’s Dual Enrollment program while in high school and then enroll as a full-time bachelor’s degree-seeking student at GMercyU will receive a full-tuition scholarship for the final semester of their senior year. When added to any other scholarships and grants, this scholarship will bring tuition costs down to $0 in the final semester of a student's senior year.
McAuley Scholarship
$20,000-$21,000 - The McAuley Scholarship is generally awarded to students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.52. Students accepted into the Honors Program often are awarded a McAuley Scholarship and may be eligible to apply for the prestigious full-tuition Presidential Scholarship.
Mother Mary Bernard Scholarship
$14,000-$19,000 - The Mother Mary Bernard Scholarship is awarded to first-time students based on high school GPA. The scholarship is renewable for three years as long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.

Merit Scholarships and Grants for Transfer Students
If you are transferring into Gwynedd Mercy University from another postsecondary institution with at least 24 credits, you may be eligible for one of our Transfer Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to students enrolling on a full-time basis and are renewable for a maximum of three years. These scholarship amounts are for transfer students entering in Fall 2023. Your admissions counselor has details on amounts for students planning to transfer in Spring 2023.
Gold Transfer Scholarship
$15,000 - The Gold Scholarship is a special annual scholarship for transfer students with an incoming GPA of at least 3.5. The scholarship is renewable as long as you maintain a GPA of at least 3.5 while enrolled at GMercyU.
Crimson Transfer Scholarship
$13,000 - The Crimson Scholarship is an annual scholarship for transfer students who enroll as full-time GMercyU students with an incoming GPA between 3.0 and 3.49. The scholarship is renewable as long as you maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 while enrolled at GMercyU.
Transfer Student Grant
$10,000-$11,000 - The Transfer Student Grant is available to transfer students who enroll as full-time GMercyU students, and have earned a minimum of 24 credits from another accredited college or university and meet GMercyU Admissions requirements. The Transfer Grant is renewable as long as you meet eligibility requirements and maintain the required cumulative GPA as described in your scholarship letter.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
$2,000 - Gwynedd Mercy University will recognize your membership in Phi Theta Kappa and award you an additional $2,000 Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, as long as you’re a member who meets eligibility requirements. Your membership in Phi Theta Kappa must be documented and verified to qualify for the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship.
Transfer Opportunity Program (TOP) Grant
$1,000 - The TOP Grant requires student to complete the FAFSA with GMercyU listed on it and submit an application for admission by February 15th.

Institutional Scholarships and Grants
Love Where You Live Grant
$1,000 - The Gwynedd Mercy University Love Where You Live Grant is a $1,000 award provided to new first-year, full-time students and new transfer full-time students who enroll in one of our Residence Halls for both semesters of your first year, beginning Fall 2024. The grant is renewable for up to three years, as long as you continue to be enrolled as a full-time student living in a GMercyU Residence Hall.
Maguire Scholars Scholarship
$3,000 to $6,000 - The Maguire Scholars Award is funded by Mr. and Mrs. James J. Maguire through The Maguire Foundation, a philanthropic enterprise that primarily focuses its resources on education. To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit an application and essay, demonstrate financial need, and have a GPA of at least 3.0. Catholic Higher Education Achievement Grant
$3,000 - If you are a first-time, first-year student who graduated from a Catholic high school, you will be eligible to receive the Catholic Higher Education Achievement Grant. The grant is renewable for up to three years, provided you are in good academic standing and are enrolled full time.
Partner High School Grant
$2,000 - This scholarship is awarded to first-time, full-time students who graduate from one of our partner high schools: Hatboro-Horsham Senior High School, Norristown Area High School, North Penn High School, Pennridge High School, Souderton Area High School, Washington Township High School, or William Tennent High School.
Sibling Grant
$2,000 - The Gwynedd Mercy University Sibling Grant is a $2,000 award provided to siblings who are enrolled at the same time as full-time students for at least one semester. The grant is renewable for up to three years even after one sibling graduates, as long as the other sibling continues to be enrolled as a full-time student.
Alumni Match Scholarship
$2,000 - The Alumni Match Scholarship is offered to children of Gwynedd Mercy University alumni and is renewable for three years. To qualify for this scholarship, one of your parents must have earned an associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree from GMercyU or Gwynedd-Mercy College. You must be enrolled on a full-time basis and meet all academic standards.
*Please note: If you have already received a bachelor’s degree, you may not be eligible for federal, state or college scholarships and grants.
Alumni Grant for Master's Degree Programs
10% tuition grant — Graduates of a Gwynedd Mercy University bachelor's degree program who want to enroll in a master's degree program are eligible for a 10% Alumni Grant, which will be applied to your tuition. This grant excludes GMercyU doctoral programs.
Other GMercyU Scholarships and Grants
A limited number of students each year may also receive additional scholarship funding made possible through generous donations from individuals and organizations that want to support Gwynedd Mercy University students.
Although you may meet the eligibility requirements of one or more of the scholarships listed below, additional funding is very limited and not guaranteed. In order to be considered for any of these scholarships, you must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Alston Family Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support to students in need. The scholarship was established by Robert and Karen Alston ‘98/’04, longtime friends of GMercyU in honor of their family.
Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Pennsylvania Scholarships
Gwynedd Mercy University is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP). AICUP offers member institutions several scholarship opportunities for undergraduate students.
Alexandrea P. Valeno Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students majoring in special education within the School of Business and Education. The scholarship was funded by friends and family in memory of Alex Valeno, former special education student and co-president of the Special Ed Club at the University.
C. Jules and Martina K. Rominger Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students in the Radiation Therapy program. The fund is named after Dr. C. Jules Rominger, longtime friend of the University and former physician in the Radiation Oncology Department at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.
Caitlyn M. Purcell Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support to students who participate in service projects. The scholarship was established in memory of Caitlyn Purcell, former nursing student at the University.
Carlino Scholars Program
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students, as recommended by the Admissions and Financial Aid departments.
Catherine Dello Buono McLaughlin Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship in memory of Catherine Dello Buono McLaughlin ’88 provides recognition and financial support for part-time students at the University.
Catholic Philopatrian Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by the Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute to support students attending Catholic universities in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Charlotte Newcombe Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding adult students. The scholarship was established by the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation to continue Mrs. Newcombe’s lifelong interest in providing scholarships for adult students.
Claire McGuire Casale ’63 Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Robert Casale in memory of his beloved wife Claire, a ’63 graduate of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Clara Glover Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Charlotte McKines, longtime trustee of the University, in memory of her aunt.
Edward J. and Olga P. Piszek Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students who participate in a travel program through the University. The fund was established by Helen Nelson ‘92/’93 Business in memory of her parents.
Elizabeth Powers Carlino Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to nursing students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Peter Carlino, Trustee Emeritus, in memory of his beloved wife.
Frank and Valie Genuardi Grant
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support to students with minimum GPAs of 2.3 and SAT scores of 900, and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was created by Frank Genuardi, Trustee Emeritus.
Golden Opportunity Endowed Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Eleanor Guzewicz, longtime friend and volunteer at the University.
Jane Reckner Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to single mothers majoring in business with a GPA of 3.0. The scholarship was established in memory of Jane Reckner, founder of J. Reckner Associates.
Janet DeMaine Kelly Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding first-generation college students with a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Janet DeMaine Kelly, a ’60 Medical Secretary graduate and longtime supporter of the University.
John J. Morrone Nursing Merit Award
This scholarship is given to a student aged 25 years or older enrolled in the BSN program in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions. The scholarship was established by Pamela ’03 and Michael Morrone in memory of Michael’s father.
John S. Morrone Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a student aged 25 years or older enrolled in the ABSN program in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions. The scholarship was established by Pamela ’03 and Michael Morrone in memory of Michael’s brother.
John Woolf Jordan, II and Martha Strank Jordan Endowed Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support to students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions with serious financial need. The scholarship was established by Susan J. Mauro ’68/’88 Nursing in memory of her beloved parents.
Josephine C. Connelly Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding education students in the School of Business and Education with SAT scores of 1000 or more, minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to graduates of Catholic high schools.
Judith Leone Reed Endowed Scholarship Fund in Memory of S. Mary Consuela, RSM, Librarian
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with demonstrated financial need. The fund was established by the estate of Judith Leone Reed ’59 Business grad in memory of S. Consuela, former librarian at the University.
Judy Gallagher Winterhalter Graduate Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship, in memory of longtime beloved faculty member Judith Winterhalter, Professor Emeritus, provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students in the nursing program in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions.
Kathleen and Alan Owens Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students with a record of participation in co-curricular and/or extra-curricular activities.
Margaret A. Schmitt Scholarship for Education
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding education students in the School of Business and Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students in the Early Education program.
Maria Bello Doran Mercy Mission Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to students who participate in service-related travel programs through the University. The fund was established by family and friends of Maria Bello Doran, a three-time grad of the University and lifelong nurse, educator and administrator.
Maria Bradley Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with a demonstrated financial need who are graduates of Little Flower Catholic High School.
Marie-Louise Vermeiren Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students who major in Education and have a minimum GPA of 3.3.
Mary Anne and Richard Francisco Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support to students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing & Health Professions who participate in study abroad through the University. The scholarship was created by Mary Anne Francisco ‘66/’76 Nursing graduate and University trustee.
Mayor James E. Mullen Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with active participation in service projects.
Michael John Maloney Johnson Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions with a minimum GPA 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Rosemary Maloney ’72 in memory of her beloved son.
Patricia A. Fogel Scholarship for Nursing and Allied Health
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to graduates of Lansdale Catholic High School and Archbishop Wood High School.
Rosemarie Zaro Scholarship
The Rosemary Zaro Scholarship provides financial assistance based on academic capability, financial need and career goals with special emphasis on women with unique family responsibilities. The scholarship was established by Dr. John Zaro in memory of his wife Rosemarie, a loyal graduate of the University.
Sister Helen Cahill Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support to international students. The fund was created in honor of Sister Helen Cahill, RSM, longtime administrator at GMercyU.
Sister Isabelle Keiss Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students with academic achievement, financial need, leadership abilities, participation in community service, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 who invest their time, talent and energy at the University.
Sister Linda Bevilacqua Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students majoring in Education with a minimum GPA of 3.3.
Sister Lois McDonough Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who are involved in campus activities.
Sister Marie Denise Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students with academic achievement, financial need, a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum SAT score of 1000.
Sister Mary Bonaventure Gowan, RSM Scholarship for Nursing
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions who exhibit S. Mary Bonaventure’s dedication to quality, compassion and generosity of spirit as embodied in the Sisters of Mercy’s tradition of service to society.
Sister Mary Fenton Joseph Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to senior BSN students with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Currently enrolled Junior nursing students are eligible to apply for the scholarship and the recipient is selected by nursing faculty.The scholarship was established in memory of Sr. Fenton Joseph, organizer of the School of Nursing at Gwynedd Mercy Junior College.
Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students who participate in study abroad or other related University travel programs to Ireland. The fund was established by The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick for the Relief of Emigrants from Ireland, established in 1771. The society promotes culture and education and provides scholarship and benevolence in the name of Irish heritage.
Susan B. Kiely Scholarship for Education
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding education students in the School of Business and Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship was established by Susan Burkhardt Kiely ’70, founder of Women with a Cause, a non-profit organization that works globally to empower women through education and skills training.
Susan Girer McQuiggan Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Studies
The Susan Girer McQuiggan Scholarship for Nursing Studies provides assistance to students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions with a demonstrated financial need. Special preference will be given to students interested in oncology, emergency room medicine or drug/alcohol rehabilitation.
William Randolph Hearst Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding Hispanic students in the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions. The scholarship was funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, which provides national resources for organizations working in the fields of education, health, culture and social service.
Windmill Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support for mature students at the University. The Windmill Foundation’s mission is to stimulate forward movement, growth, and mobility in the lives of individuals and communities in the areas of health, education, and human services.
Windmill Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial support for students to study abroad. The Windmill Foundation’s mission is to stimulate forward movement, growth, and mobility in the lives of individuals and communities in the areas of health, education, and human services.
Wissahickon Gwynedd Mercy University Opportunity Scholarship
This full scholarship is awarded to one Wissahickon High School student who has expressed a desire to enter the teaching profession and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Education at GMercyU. The student will be selected by the District, and must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet GMercyU’s admissions requirements. Preference will be given to a student from an underrepresented population based on The District’s commitment to diversifying its teaching staff to better mirror its student body. This scholarship is funded, in part, by a generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
W.W. Smith Charitable Trust Scholarship
This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to students in good academic standing with at least a 2.5 cumulative average, and financial need that cannot be met by other aid programs. Students must be permanent residents of the Delaware Valley Area (Counties: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia).
